Are You LinkedIn?

I hope you’re enjoying the warm weather. In honor of sunshine and summer, we’re launching a new series called Is your job search LinkedIn?, I want to be sure that you have all of the information you need for a great LinkedIn profile. If yours doesn’t look so good, it might be time for a makeover of sorts:=) That said, I have a couple of tips for you and will be adding more.

The beauty of LinkedIn is that it is a social networking platform, so you don’t need to be as formal as you would be with a resume and cover letter. In fact, it’s a good idea to be conversational, use your own voice, and write just as you speak. However, you still want to present yourself as a professional.

If you’re making an introduction:

~Think about how you want to position yourself.
~Take time to look over their profile to find things that you have in common.
~Ask yourself what the benefit is for both of you in connecting.
~Personalize the message so that it resonates with the recipient.

You can find some great opportunities using LinkedIn. And, with a bit of effort, you and build lasting connections. It’s up to you to take the first step.
